Hurricane Frances - Sept. 2004

During the first week of September, 2004, we were on the outer bands of Hurricane Frances that came in above Miami, in the Vero Bach area, traveled across the State exiting into the Gulf of Mexico above Tampa and then traveled north back into the State and on up to Georgia.  The storm was big, extending out 280 miles and slow - traveling at 5-8 mph.  At my place on the St, Johns River, the sustained wind were clocked at 57 mph with gusts up to 68 mph.  I assure you it seemed to be a lot stronger than that.  The storm itself lasted over 60 hours in the area.  We were without power in some areas over one hundred hours.  This storm was on the heels of Hurricane Charley and a third storm is threatening us as I write this - Hurricane Ivan!  This much Hurricane activity is highly unusual for Florida, although we generally get hit by at least one most years.
